Trusting God’s Perfect Timing

At first glance, today’s Gospel may seem surprising. Jesus tells the apostles not to go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, but only to “the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” It almost sounds as though Jesus is excluding people. Yet we know that cannot be the case, because after His Resurrection He sends the apostles to “make disciples of all nations.” Today’s Gospel is not about excluding anyone; it is about God’s plan unfolding in His perfect time. For centuries, God had prepared Israel through His covenant with Abraham, the Law given through Moses, and the message of the prophets. Jesus first fulfills those promises before sending the Good News to the entire world.

There is an important lesson for us in the way God works. We often want immediate answers to our prayers, instant healing, quick solutions, and sudden conversions. God, however, usually works patiently. He prepares hearts, opens doors we cannot yet see, and lays the foundation for what He intends to accomplish. Looking back over our lives, we often realize that what seemed like a delay was actually God’s wisdom at work.

Today’s Gospel invites us to trust God’s timing as much as we trust His love. If He asks us to wait, it is not because He has forgotten us, but because He is still preparing the next step. The same Lord who patiently unfolded His plan of salvation is still patiently unfolding His plan for each one of us. Even when we cannot yet see what He is doing, we can be confident that His timing is always perfect, His wisdom never fails, and His plan is always greater than our own.
