When Stones Fall, Faith Remains

In today’s Gospel, the disciples are taken in by the beauty and strength of the Temple—these massive stones, this impressive structure. And Jesus gently tells them, “All of this will fall.” Not to scare them, but to teach them where not to place their trust.

The world loves things that look solid and permanent. We do too. We rely on routines, plans, structures, and a sense of control. But Jesus reminds us that nothing in this world is as permanent as it appears. And yet His message isn’t doom—it’s clarity. It’s a call to root our hearts in something deeper.

St. John Chrysostom once said, “When the world is falling to pieces, the Christian stands firm.”

Not because we’re strong, but because our foundation isn’t made of stone—it’s built on Christ.

So when Jesus says, “Do not be terrified,” He’s giving us a way to live. A way to be steady even when life shifts. A way to trust when other things fail.

Today, let’s simply ask for the grace to place our security in the only One who doesn’t crumble—and to live with the quiet confidence of people who know God is faithful in every moment.
