Today, we remember and honor the courageous witness of Saint Paul Miki and his companions, who faced persecution and martyrdom for their unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Their lives serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by so many throughout history to uphold the truth of the Gospel.

In the gospel reading from Mark 6:7-13, Jesus sends out His disciples to proclaim the message of repentance, drive out demons, and heal the sick. He instructs them to travel light, relying on the hospitality of others and trusting in God’s provision. This passage illustrates the urgency and simplicity of their mission, as well as the importance of spreading the Good News without fear or hesitation.

Like Saint Paul Miki and his companions, we are called to be bold witnesses of the Gospel in our own time and place. They faced persecution and death with unwavering faith and courage, knowing that their ultimate reward awaited them in heaven. Their example challenges us to stand firm in our beliefs, even in the face of adversity, and to trust in God’s providence as we carry out His work in the world.
