Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children

Today, as we gather in prayer for the legal protection of unborn children, we reflect on the Gospel reading from Luke 1:39-56. This passage tells the beautiful story of the Visitation, when Mary, pregnant with Jesus, went to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was also expecting a child.

As Mary arrives at Elizabeth’s house, the unborn John the Baptist leaps for joy in his mother\’s womb at the presence of Jesus in Mary’s womb. This encounter reminds us of the sanctity of all life, even life that is yet to be born. It teaches us that every unborn child is precious in the eyes of God, deserving of love, protection, and care.

Mary’s response to Elizabeth’s greeting is the Magnificat, a beautiful prayer of praise and thanksgiving to God. In it, she proclaims the greatness of the Lord and rejoices in His mercy and compassion. Mary’s humility, faith, and obedience serve as a model for us as we seek to protect the most vulnerable among us.

As we pray for the legal protection of unborn children, let us also pray for the courage to speak out against injustices and advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. May we be inspired by Mary’s example to say “yes” to God’s will and work tirelessly to ensure that all life is respected and cherished.

Let us remember that every child, born and unborn, is a precious gift from God, created in His image and deserving of our love and protection. May we strive to build a culture of life where every child is welcomed, loved, and valued.
