In today’s Gospel reading from John 1:35-42, we see the beautiful encounter between Jesus and his first disciples. As John the Baptist stands with two of his disciples, Jesus walks by, and John declares, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” Upon hearing this, the two disciples decide to follow Jesus. 

This passage reminds us of the importance of recognizing Jesus in our lives and choosing to follow Him. Just like the first disciples, we are called to be attentive to His presence and respond with a willingness to follow Him wherever He may lead us.

When Jesus sees the two disciples following Him, He asks them, “What are you looking for?” This question is vital for us to reflect on as well. What are we truly seeking in our lives? Are we seeking fulfillment, purpose, or happiness in the right places? Jesus is the only one who can truly satisfy the deepest desires of our hearts.

The disciples respond to Jesus by asking where He is staying, and His simple invitation to “Come and see” leads them to spend time with Him. This is an invitation for all of us as well – to draw near to Jesus, spend time with Him in prayer, listen to His words, and allow Him to reveal Himself to us in new and profound ways.

As we reflect on this Gospel passage, let us remember that Jesus is always inviting us to follow Him more closely. He is calling us to deepen our relationship with Him and to become His faithful disciples. May we have the courage and openness to respond to His call and experience the abundant blessings that come from following Him.
